What you say in counselling / supervision remains confidential in accordance with the BACP ethical framework. Data may be shared with other agencies if there is a legal requirement to do so or if there is felt to be an immediate risk of significant harm to you or others.
The code of practice for BACP members requires counsellors and therapists to have regular supervision. This is confidential and personal details of clients are never revealed to the supervisor.
Client data will be used for the purposes of providing a counselling service. Client records are kept for 7 years before being safely destroyed. Client rights are recognised in line with data protection law. Emails and texts can be used for booking and changing appointments, but not for discussing any case material. When submitting information, you consent to data being held and used in this way.
